PRETORIA - The African National Congress has officially launched a complaint with the IEC regarding comments made by Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane regarding an announcement claiming that his party won the Nelson Mandela Bay metro.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane made an announcement earlier today that their projections show the party will secure the biggest number of votes in the metro.

Maimane said his party would be the biggest in Nelson Mandela Bay, saying that early projections showed the party would clinch about 46 percent of the votes in the metro.

But ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe is criticising him for making this announcement at the IEC.

"People are angry and they are calling us saying before the press conference parties have announced the results of all municipality."

He says this will have a bearing on the IEC's credibility.

"It will damage the image of the IEC because it means results of the ANC people can access them informally."

Meanwhile Maimane says the DA will now begin lobbying smaller parties for a coalition.

The IEC has confirmed final results for Nelson Mandela Bay will be out later this evening.
