Nearly three million more women than men registered to participate in this year’s elections.
JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress Women's League ( ANCWL) says the high turnout of female voters is a sign that South African women are ready to run the country on all levels.
The ANCWL says it feels even more encouraged to continue its fight for the representation of women in corporate and government structures.
Nearly three million more women than men registered to participate in this year's elections.
As South Africa celebrates Women's Month, the ANC women's league says it's impressed by the high number of female registrants and voters during this year's elections.
ANCWL President Bathabile Dlamini says now is the time for transformation and for women to claim their place in society.
"We want them to own up to 9 August and to understand that this is the period of transformation."
She says she's happy that women are now taking a stand and actively participating in shaping their futures.
