State calls on Zephany Nurse to testify

CAPE TOWN - The State today called Zephany Nurse to testify in aggravation of sentence at the Western Cape High Court.
Nurse was snatched from her sleeping mother's arms at Groote Schuur Hospital in 1997.
A Lavender Hill woman was convicted of her kidnapping and sentencing procedures are underway.
Zephany testified in camera. Her evidence is said to be of a sensitive nature.
The youth has chosen to stay in the Lavender Hill home where she was raised.
Her testimony is crucial and will allow Judge John Hlophe to decide what kind of punishment should be handed to her kidnapper, who she has called mom for almost two decades.
Judge Hlophe has ordered none of her evidence be made public.
At the same time, Zephany's family says her kidnapper deserves to receive a harsh sentence for destroying so many people's lives.
Earlier, Morne also took the witness stand. He was unable to proceed with his evidence yesterday as he was too emotional.
He told the court his daughter's kidnapper should never have been given bail following her arrest last year.
He says it was during that period the Lavender Hill woman indoctrinated his daughter.
He then demanded she apologise for her crime.
