Mbete reschedules voting after forgetting ID book
Mbete arrived shortly after 9am but turned back when she realised she didn’t have her ID book.
JOHANNESBURG - With parties making a final push for votes today some politicians are also casting their special votes on the second and final day of the process.
In Northcliff in Johannesburg, African National Congress (ANC) Chairperson Baleka Mbete has had to reschedule her voting because she did not have her identity document.
Mbete arrived shortly after 9am but turned back when she realised she didn't have her ID book.
It's understood that on Mbete's last trip, her ID book was with the officials that handle her travel documents and the assumption was that it had been returned.
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says this is goes to show that everyone needs their ID with them to cast their vote.
"The fact that the national chairperson of the ANC when she went to cast her vote this morning she couldn't because she did not have her ID book, is an important reminder to all of us that whatever you do tomorrow morning, have your ID with you."
She is expected to return later today.
