‘Zuma is racist beyond any measure’
Helen Zille says President Jacob Zuma’s insulting remarks insinuate black people can't think for themselves.
ALEXANDRA - Western Cape Premier Helen Zille has accused President Jacob Zuma of being "racist beyond any measure" after he labelled the Democratic Alliance (DA) as a party of white bosses and black stooges.
Zuma was quoting and agreeing with remarks made by former president Nelson Mandela when he was addressing Cosatu's 15th anniversary in 2000.
Zille has today been campaigning with the DA's mayoral candidate for Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, in Alexandra.
One of the places the pair visited was a women's hostel in the area.
Zille says Zuma's insulting remarks insinuate that black people are incapable of thinking and making decisions for themselves.
"Do you know how racist it is to say black people can't take an intelligent decision and make up their own minds."
She says Zuma simply cannot keep getting away with such racist remarks.
"How come Zuma can say black South Africans aren't in a position, intellectually, to take a decision on their own. That is an outrageous example of racism and I don't know why anyone stands for it."
Zuma spoke at the ruling party's Siyanqoba Rally at Emirates Airline Park yesterday.
