DA expects outgoing George mayor to join ANC
Charles Standers has accused the DA of turning a blind eye to corruption & accused it of racist practices.
CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will not hesitate to take action against its own members who do not perform.
This as George Municipal Mayor Charles Standers resigned from the DA and opted to leave the party at the end of his term next week.
The outgoing mayor has accused the George caucus of turning a blind eye to corruption and accused the party of racist practices.
The DA's Jaco Londt believes Standers could now possibly join the African National Congress (ANC).
"We, in the DA, expect him to join the ANC where like-minded individuals like Jacob Zuma and Marius Fransman will welcome him to the fold."
But the ANC's Southern Cape regional secretary Major Sokopo has denied this.
"Charles has not approached the ANC at any stage, or was never approached by the ANC. So it is not correct that Charles Standers is joining the ANC, or that he is in the process of joining it."
