CAPE TOWN - A group of people were able to overpower a man after he allegedly pointed a gun during an African National Congress (ANC) campaign event in the Piketberg area.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident which happened on Monday afternoon.

While officials were busy with a door-to-door campaign, ANC councillor Sammy Claassen says the man pulled up in a white bakkie and pulled out a firearm.

"Luckily we were able to overpower him and to get a hold of the rifle. We called the police who arrested him. He was also under the influence of some substance, but I am not sure whether it was alcohol. He was not sober at that stage."
