Party funding secrecy leading to corruption - Holomisa
The UDM leader says that legislation governing political party funding is needed.
JOHANNESBURG - As the African National Congress (ANC) and the other major parties refuse to say how much money they're spending on their election campaigns, United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader Bantu Holomisa says secrecy around party funding is leading to corruption.
However, ANC treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize says that's not true and he won't say how much has been spent.
"There are issues which are internal with any organisation which are confidential to the organisation."
Holomisa says this proves that the law must change.
"There've even been serious accusations that the ruling party is using pension money for their party coffers. We need that legislation."
The Democratic Alliance and the Economic Freedom Fighters have also refused to reveal how much they've spent so far.
