Three people die in separate fires in Western Cape

A man died when his home was razed to the ground by a blaze in Witsand near Atlantis on Saturday.

CAPE TOWN - At least three people have died in separate fires in the Western Cape over the weekend.

In the first incident, a man died when his home was razed to the ground by a blaze in Witsand near Atlantis on Saturday.

The fire also displaced around 20 people.

In another tragedy, a four-year-old child died in a Philippi house fire.

Fire and Rescue services' Theo Layne said there was another deadly inferno in Khayelitsha.

"We responded to Witsand informal settlement where we had one adult male with fatal burns and one adult female with burn wounds to the face, neck and back.

"In the separate incident in Khayelitsha, one structure was destroyed by fire that left one adult male with fatal burns. The causes of these fires are unknown at this stage."
