ANC hopes Thabo Mbeki will campaign for party
The party’s veterans called on Mbeki to come out and campaign for the party, saying he owed it to the ANC.
JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng chairperson Paul Mashatile says he hopes former president Thabo Mbeki will heed the call to campaign for the party ahead of the upcoming elections like other ANC veterans.
At the weekend, Tokyo Sexwale and Mavuso Msimang campaigned with the provincial party in Soweto.
The veterans called on Mbeki to come out and campaign for the party, saying he owed it to the party.
While he still hasn't indicated whether he'll join the campaign trail, he issued a statement saying he remains a loyal member of the ANC.
Mashatile says they remain hopeful.
"We are bringing everybody in the election campaign for all to participate, including former president Thabo Mbeki. I'm sure he'll be coming."
