Mashatile admits ANC needs Mbeki's presence on its campaign trail

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng African National Congress (ANC) chairperson Paul Mashatile says former president Thabo Mbeki's presence on its campaign trail would make a huge difference on the outcome of elections.
Mashatile was doing a door-to-door campaign in Soweto yesterday, joined by ANC veterans Mavuso Msimang and Tokyo Sexwale.

Other veterans such as Ahmed Kathrada and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela have also endorsed the party.
Despite Mbeki not having responded to the request to help the Gauteng ANC campaign, Mashatile says the ANC's stalwarts are still loyal members.
"Sometimes people think the ANC is weak, its stalwarts are not with it but now you can see we are united and we are moving forward. We are saying to people vote for the ANC because it's the party that will continue to carry forward the aspirations of the people."
