Parks Tau to visit Gugu Zulu's family

The race car driver’s body arrived back to South Africa yesterday and he will be buried next week.

JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg mayor Parks Tau is expected to visit Gugu Zulu's family this afternoon to convey his condolences.

Zulu died while attempting to summit Mount Kilimanjaro on Monday, after suffering from flu-like symptoms and difficulty breathing before he passed away.

He was a part of the Trek4Mandela hiking team which aimed to raise funds for charity.

The race car driver's body arrived back to South Africa yesterday and he will be buried next week.

The City of Johannesburg's Nthatisi Modingoane says, "The mayor is visiting the family today to be with them during this sad time to show that the city is concerned following this loss."

The doctor who accompanied the team says she expected him to recover once he had descended from the mountain, saying he only became ill the night before. She added that the last time she saw him, he was unconscious but stable.
