Over R250,000 raised for sacked SABC journalists
The money will be distributed to the journalists, who were fired earlier this week.
JOHANNESBURG - Hundreds of thousands of rands have been raised overnight for a group of journalists axed by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) this week.
The crowdfunding initiative titled "Friends of SABC journalists" has raised over R250,000 in donations so far.
The money will be distributed to the journalists who were this week dismissed by the public broadcaster for speaking out on its controversial editorial policies.
Four were axed on Monday, while three more received their termination letters yesterday.
Civil rights groups have since condemned the SABC's actions, saying the situation at the corporation is worsening.
Four of the journalists have already confirmed they're going to the Labour Court on Thursday to contest their dismissals.
