DA predicts ‘landslide victory’ in Botrivier
The party has been in power for six years after taking over from the Independent Democrats.
CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) is predicting a landslide municipal election victory in the Overberg Town of Botrivier.
The party has been in power for six years after taking over from the Independent Democrats (ID).
More than half of the over 4,000 registered voters in Botrivier are seasonal workers employed at fruit factories.
Councillor Pearl Stanfliet says the DA has made great strides in improving residents' living conditions.
She says at least two housing projects have been completed since her appointment in 2010.
Some of those beneficiaries had been on the housing waiting list for 25 years.
Stanfliet says Botrivier's only informal settlement, New France, was supplied with electricity for the first time last week.
Stanfliet admits housing and youth unemployment remain two huge problems facing locals.
