AWB leader found in possession of firearms, ammunition

The 48-year-old was arrested in possession with eight unlicensed firearms & 2,000 rounds of ammunition.

JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks have arrested the leader of the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) in the Vaal for possession of firearms and ammunition.

The 48-year-old was arrested at a house in Vereeniging, where he was found with eight unlicensed firearms and more than 2,000 rounds of different calibre ammunition.

Yesterday, another member of the party was arrested in Vanderbijlpark, in possession of nine rifles and three pistols.

The two will appear in the Vereeniging Magistrates court on Monday.

The Hawk's Hangwani Mulaudzi says, "We have solicited the help of our crime intelligence members to ascertain where the firearms were going to be taken and what they would be used for."
