CAPE TOWN - A group of Athlone community members have gathered outside the local magistrates court where two men accused of killing six-year-old Saadiqah Lippert are expected to appear.

Lippert was shot and killed while playing in the street near her grandmother's home earlier this year.

The two accused are expected to apply for bail today.

About 20 children are among the protesters outside the Athlone Magistrates Court, who are calling for bail to be denied.

Other community members are holding placards with messages reading "Justice for Saadiqah" and others have posters with photos of the little girl on them.

The slain child's mother, Chimeize Francis, will sit in on court proceedings.

It is believed Lippert was hit by a stray bullet during a gang shooting.
