Atlantis man accused of rape while on parole due in court
During his last court appearance the accused was told he cannot apply for bail due to a previous conviction.
CAPE TOWN - A man accused of the rape of a 12-year-old Atlantis boy while out on parole for the same offence is back in the dock today.
The accused allegedly beat and raped the child in an open field in May.
He was arrested several days later and has been in police custody since then.
During his last court appearance about a month ago, the 24-year-old accused was told that he could not apply for bail due to a previous conviction.
The court heard that his parole would be revoked and he would remain in police custody.
He was released from prison last year after serving half of his 10-year sentence for the rape of another child in Atlantis in 2009.
Angry community members, including relatives of the 12-year-old survivor, protested outside court last month, calling for bail to be denied.
