EFF promises free water, electricity in Tshwane
The municipality is one of several hotly-contested battlegrounds going in to the election.
JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Pretoria said that should it take over the city's municipality following the local government election, it will implement some of the African National Congress' (ANC) policies which it said the ruling party had failed to put in place.
The capital is one of several hotly-contested battlegrounds going in to the election.
The EFF's Omphile Maote said that the party wants to address the housing backlog in Pretoria.
"We are going to implement what the ANC failed to implement. If you are being paid a grant and you live in an RDP house, how are you expected to pay for water and electricity? We are going to give those people free water and electricity."
In the last local government elections, 52% of eligible voters cast their vote, with the ANC winning by 90%.
