CT woman hit by train, loses arms and legs

It's understood the woman was walking across the train tracks when she was struck.

CAPE TOWN - An elderly woman is recovering in hospital after she was hit by a train in Athlone.

The incident happened at around 6 o'clock this morning.

It's understood the woman was walking across the train tracks when she was struck.

The woman, believed to be about 70 years old, is in a critical condition. Both her arms and legs have been amputated.

It's the latest in a series of rail-related incidents.

Last week, a man sustained serious injuries after he was reportedly thrown from a moving train near Brackenfell station.

In Steenberg, about two weeks ago, 16-year-old Charles Gates died when he was struck by an oncoming train. His 15-year-old friend sustained serious injuries.



Late last month, a woman was killed after she hit by a train near Strand station.
