JOHANNESBURG - Police have arrested six people in Waldrift for public violence, for protesting on the R82, in Vereeniging.
Residents are unhappy with the instalment of smart electricity meters in their community.
Police used stun grenades to disperse the crowd, who burnt tyres and rubble earlier.
The police's Kay Makhubela says, "They were throwing stones at the police and passers-by. We have managed to contain the situation. [It] is now calm; police will continue to monitor the area."
