Another major drug bust at OR Tambo airport
Sars officials seized heroin and cocaine worth over R1 million concealed in wedding cards.
JOHANNESBURG - There's been a major drug bust at OR Tambo International Airport.
South African Revenue Service (Sars) officials have seized heroin and cocaine worth over R1 million.
The customs officials made the discovery yesterday while examining wedding cards that were destined for Australia.
After a thorough inspection they found the A4 cards were concealing 3.5 kilograms of drugs.
Last month, a passenger who had disembarked from a flight from Kenya tried to slip through customs with a backpack containing crystal meth valued at over R4 million.
This was followed by a seizure of drugs worth more than R6 million in separate busts at OR Tambo.
In May, Sars officials intercepted drugs valued at over R7 million at the airport.
The bust was made during an inspection of a flight from Benin.
