[LISTEN] SA sees a further loss of 15,000 jobs

Statistics South Africa released its Quarterly Employment Survey, which showed that 15,000 jobs were shed in the formal sector, leaving almost 9 million people unemployed.

JOHANNESBURG - It has emerged that 15,000 jobs were lost in the formal sector in the first quarter of this year.

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) has released its quarterly statistics which show employment decreased across all sectors, with the exceptions of community services, electricity and construction.

Isaac Matshego, speaking to John Robbie, says the local economy's poor growth has contributed to this negative outlook.

He says the SA government's expenditure has grown over the last few years, making the recovery more complex, but he has urged big corporates to play their role in addressing the situation.
