Lonmin evaluates safety procedures after miner's death

A mineworker has died following an accident at the Marikana operation near Rustenburg.

JOHANNESBURG - Mining Company Lonmin says it will evaluate its safety procedures after a mineworker died following an accident at the company's Marikana operation near Rustenburg.

The company says the rock drill operator was taken to hospital on Saturday and succumbed to his injuries just a day later.

Lonmin spokesperson Anthone Cardrew says safety in Lonmin's first priority.

"We are deeply saddened by the death of our colleague and we extend our sympathy to his family and friends."
