Serial rapist gets 12 life sentences in Vereeniging
Some of the rapist's young victims were infected with HIV.
JOHANNESBURG - The Circuit High Court sitting in Vereeniging handed a serial rapist 12 life sentences for raping young girls and infecting some of them with HIV.
The Star newspaper is reporting that Moeketsi Monyake was handed an additional five years for six kidnappings.
The crimes were committed between 2010 and 2015 when Monyake was arrested.
The 34-year-old lured his victims with food and, at times, befriended their families.
Women and Men against Child Abuse's Tania Otto has welcomed the sentence.
"We have to look at our parole system because a person like this should be in jail for the rest of his natural life. We sincerely hope that the victims' families and the victims themselves will find peace."
