Authorities 'hot on the heels' of prison escapees
Police have arrested two of the 10 awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the Mogwase Prison.
JOHANNESBURG - Correctional Services says two of the 10 awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the Mogwase Prison in Rustenburg have been rearrested.
The men, who escaped from the facility less than two weeks ago, were being held for various charges including murder and armed robbery.
They will now face an additional charge of escaping from custody.
It is understood that they broke through a toilet window and then used bed sheets to escape.
Correctional Services Manelisi Wolela confirmed that Loyd Mulungu and Joseph Miambu were arrested near South Africa's border with Zimbabwe.
"They have been arrested because the country has been on full alert. The acting regional commissioner of Limpopo and the North West region officials have been involved in this. They say they're hot on the heels of the remaining escapees."
Correctional services says four of the escapees are former Zimbabwean soldiers.
