CAPE TOWN - A group of people believed to be disgruntled African National Congress supporters were dispersed by police after they tried to disrupt a party event in Khayelitsha.

ANC provincial executive committee members Andile Lili was introducing a ward councillor candidate for the upcoming local government elections.

It's understood the protestors are disgruntled party members who are rejecting the candidate and claim their preferred choice was sidelined by the PEC.

Lili says the group tried to block them inside the venue.

"They blocked the gate and burnt tyres to block the road. Public order policing came here and they ran away because they knew that rubber bullets would follow and they would be arrested."
