New paediatric surgery clinic to be built in Soweto
Gauteng Health and ‘Surgeons for Little Lives’ launched an initiative to build the facility, yesterday.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu says a newly-built paediatric surgery clinic at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital will transform the face of public healthcare.
The department together with 'Surgeons for Little Lives' and GlaxoSmithKline launched the initiative to build the facility in Soweto yesterday.
The state of the art R28 million clinic will be built over the next 12 months.
Mahlangu says the new facility will ensure children receive world class healthcare.
"We look forward to the new building. It's going to contribute toward the plan we have of changing Chris Hani Baragwanath for the better."
The paediatric surgery output clinic will also have a sleepover facility for parents.
One mother says she is happy that mothers like her, who come from far, will be able to be their children while they receive treatment.
"I will be happy to stay with my child and have him next to me. To see him every day."
The current clinic is run from two small roomed prefabricated buildings, providing treatment to over 1,000 patients a month.
