Hawks deny claims authorities are shielding Linda Mti
An SIU report has been released, implicating Mti in the awarding of alleged irregular tenders.
The party has released a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report, which apparently implicates Mti in the awarding of alleged irregular tenders worth more than R1 billion when he was national correctional service commissioner.
The DA raised the questions after Mti was appointed as the Nelson Mandela Bay's head of Safety and Security in April.
The Hawks have confirmed there's an ongoing investigation into prison tenders awarded to Bosasa Operations.
It's understood police are in possession of the SIU forensic report, which apparently links Mti to fraud and corruption.
The DA's Athol Trollip claims there's a cover up because the matter has been outstanding for seven years.
"We can't have somebody with serious charges of billions of rand of corruption against him just never having to account for it."
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) however maintains it can only decide to prosecute anyone once police have completed an investigation.
