Cosatu: Public transport in CT has deteriorated
Cosatu's planned strike for today, in protest against poor rail & bus services, has been postponed.
CAPE TOWN - The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in the Western Cape claims the public transport in Cape Town has deteriorated even further over the past few months.
The trade union federation had called a strike for today in protest against poor rail and bus services in the city.
But it's postponed the strike for now.
Cosatu's Tony Ehrenreich says, "Public transport in Cape Town has gotten progressively worse with Metrorail trains being ineffective and completely inefficient in providing public transport."
Metrorail's Richard Walker says the rail operator is doing everything it can to improve services.
"We're quite confident that by end of October, through our own in-house maintenance programme as well as our general overall programme, we've got a plan to recover our 88 sets in October."
