'Redeployment of two senior WC cops not a demotion'
Jeremy Vearey and Peter Jacobs were informed last week that they would be made cluster commanders.
CAPE TOWN - Acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane says the redeployment of two senior Western Cape police officers should not be seen as a demotion.
Acting on their behalf, the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) confirmed a grievance was filed with Phalane's office.
Popcru's Mncedisi Mbolekwa said, "After 30 days if the matter is not resolved, you go for application with an external institution like the CCMA."
But Phahlane's spokesperson, Mashadi Selepe, says proper procedures have been followed.
"The redeployment of senior managers in the SAPS is to ensure service delivery improvement where they are taken. So their skills and expertise are required elsewhere."
