‘UP management not doing enough to end patriarchy culture’
The EFF Student Command claims men living on campus are given rewards for having sex with many women.
JOHANNESBURG - Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Student Command have lashed out at management at the University of Pretoria (UP), accusing it of not doing enough to end the culture of patriarchy at the institution.
The organisation claims that men living at residences on campus are given rewards for having sex with many women.
The university, meanwhile, says it has taken note of these reports but will only be able to investigate once cases have been reported.
The EFF's Student Command says it brought management's attention to allegations that women are treated like objects at student residences at the university months ago, but nothing has changed.
The organisation's Onthatile Marang says male students even sing songs together about being promiscuous.
"They randomly pull out their genitals and sometimes go out then decide the house on the res [which] encourages rape."
The university has urged students to come forward with information.
