More JHB areas left in the dark due to technical fault at Kelvin station
The loss of power at the station has affected seven sub-stations in Rosebank, Alexandra and other areas.
JOHANNESBURG - City Power says a fault at the Kelvin Power Station is to blame for the widespread electricity outages across Johannesburg this afternoon.
The loss of power at the station has affected seven sub-stations in Rosebank, Alexandra, Observatory and other areas.
Suburbs including Illovo, Melrose, Kensington and surrounding areas are currently without electricity.
City Power says its technicians are working to fix the technical fault.
The utility's spokesperson Yumna Sheikh said, "City Power experienced a fault at the Kelvin Power Station. Technicians are currently working on site and we expect to have power restored soon."
City Power has so far managed to restore power to some of the areas.
