[LISTEN] 'SA's blood supply is at a crisis & at critically low levels'

| The South African National Blood Service says South Africa is facing a serious shortage of blood and that it has until today to pick it up.

CAPE TOWN - The South African National Blood Service says the country is facing a serious shortage of blood and that it has until today to pick it up.

The agency says it's facing a crisis point and an urgent intervention is needed to avert the crisis from escalating.

In light of World Blood Donor Day, the organisation has encouraged people to donate blood at some of its donor stations, which will be open until late.

South Africa is one of 65 countries which depends on voluntary, unpaid blood donations.
