JOHANNESBURG - The City of Cape Town's water and sanitation department has assured residents along the Atlantic Seaboard that their drinking water is safe and poses no health risks.

Some residents have raised concern about the water being slightly discoloured.

The City's Farouk Robertson says the Atlantic Seaboard receives its water from the Kloof Nek Water Treatment Plant which started up again earlier this week after being shut down.

The plant was closed due to the taste and odour in the water, caused by the vegetation in the river on Table Mountain.

Robertson says the matter has been addressed.

"The matter was rectified and the water colour normalised. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience, but emphasise that the water is fit for consumption."
