Plans underway to increase power capacity in JHB this winter
Both Eskom and City Power are looking at interventions that will help increase capacity on its systems.
JOHANNESBURG - Both Eskom and City Power say they are looking at interventions that will help increase capacity on its systems this winter.
The power utilities say they're under extreme pressure due to the current cold snap.
They're appealing to customers to use electricity sparingly, as large parts of Johannesburg have been experiencing outages for the past few days.
Some residents have taken to the streets to vent their anger.
Eskom's Daphney Mokwena says plans to address power outages in Soweto are underway.
"In Soweto, we have established a team to normalise the situation and look at solutions that can sustain us through winter."
City Power's Sicelo Xulu says they've increased their resources, in order to accelerate the process of restoring power to the affected areas.
"We can better respond to those areas and we have called people back who were on leave to respond to the outages."
