SIU recommends criminal charges against Linda Mti
A report implicates Mti in fraud and corruption when he served as correctional services commissioner.
CAPE TOWN - The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has recommended criminal charges should be considered against Port Elizabeth's Safety and Security head, Linda Mti.
An SIU report implicates Mti in fraud and corruption when he served as national correctional services commissioner between 2004 and 2005.
The unit says during that time Mti benefitted financially by favouring Bosasa Operations in the awarding of tenders amounting over R1.5 billion.
The confidential SIU report, which has been leaked by the Democratic Alliance (DA), details four irregular tenders awarded to Bosasa Operations by correctional services.
It implicates Mti and the correctional services department's chief financial officer.
The report recommends the former head and several others be criminally prosecuted.
The 95-page document had been handed to the Presidency in April 2013.
Eyewitness News can confirm despite the SIU's findings; no further investigation is underway.
