CAPE TOWN - A South African lion sculpture is amongst a sought-after list of art work up for auction at one of Europe's most prestigious charity galas.

Bruce Little's larger-than-life sized lion was bought by Leonardo DiCaprio in aid of his wildlife conservation auction, due to take place in the south of France next month.

Little, a nature conservationist at heart, says he's proud to throw his weight behind this noble cause.

"It is a realisation of a dream and it is proudly South African. Very few people realise that lions are at threat. My big hope is that this piece will be a beacon for lions as bronze will be around for thousands of years, so will lions be around for the same amount of time."
