Hawks to investigate Oudtshoorn’s alleged financial mismanagement
The provincial Forensic Services provided the Hawks with a dossier detailing its findings earlier this year.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Government says the Hawks are officially investigating criminal cases relating to alleged financial mismanagement at Oudtshoorn Municipality.
The provincial forensic investigative unit had conducted a probe into the municipality and uncovered a series of transgressions.
The ailing municipality is on the road to recovery after being placed under administration following years of dysfunction.
The Provincial Forensic Services provided the Hawks with a dossier detailing its findings earlier this year.
Investigators had identified 132 instances where officials flouted the Municipal Finance Management Act.
They had also found two cases of alleged corruption and eight of fraud.
It's now emerged the Hawks are investigating cases of financial mismanagement, fraud and corruption.
At the same time, Oudtshoorn administrator Kam Chetty has started disciplinary proceedings against three senior officials implicated in the report
