3 die in JHB weekend fires
Firefighters responded to over 17 emergencies in and around the city over the weekend.
JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Emergency Services says three people have died following a series of fires since the start of the cold front.
One of the victims, a 24-year-old man from Orange Farm, died yesterday morning when a shack he was sharing with a friend caught alight.
Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says firefighters responded to over 17 emergencies in and around the city over the weekend.
"Out of the 17 incidents which we had over the weekend, 10 of those were in formal residential areas and the other seven where in backyard shacks. From our side, we will be monitoring all the communities throughout the city to ensure that if there is an incident we are able to respond."
The cold front is expected to grip Gauteng until at least Wednesday.
