GDE to prioritise learner placements before considering late online registration
The department says it's hard to say whether parents who missed the deadline will get a second chance.
JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Education says it will only decide on whether to extend the online registration for grade 1 and 8 pupils once it's done working on placing learners in various schools.
The website closed earlier this month with the department receiving nearly 700,000 applications.
The system was launched two months ago after experiencing a number of technical problems.
Spokesperson Oupa Bodibe says it's hard to say at this stage whether parents who missed the deadline will get a second chance.
"We are going to start placements and then we can only talk about late registrations when we are done with placements."
