Some of the coolest brands and celebs, as voted for by SA youth

The results of the annual 'Sunday Times' Generation Next youth survey have been announced.

JOHANNESBURG - South African youths have decided on what they believe are some of the coolest brands for 2016 in this year's Generation Next survey conducted by HDI Youth Marketeers.

The results for the survey, which polls the opinion of young people between 8 and 22 to determine their brands, products and celebrity preferences, have been revealed at an awards ceremony at the Sandton Convention Centre this evening.

The award for the 'Overall Coolest Brand' has been awarded to Nike, which has also been voted the 'Coolest Clothing Brand' with the 'Coolest Brand Slogan'.

Nestle SA is the first to receive the newly introduced title for the 'Coolest Proudly SA Brand'.

In a statement, HDI's Jason Levin said, "Youth are a market that know what they want, and respect brands that invest in their communities. They proactively seek brands that sell them experiences that they can share with their friends. They want to be immersed in stories and experiences that brands have to tell, as long as they have an opportunity to choose them. They respond to brands that enter their world to make it more interesting and add value."

Proteas Cricket Captain AB de Villiers has been acknowledged as 'SA's Coolest Local Sportsperson'.

Actress and model Pearl Thusi was announced as the 'Coolest Local Female Screen Star'.

Trevor Noah is the 'Coolest Local Male Screen Star', Black Coffee is 'Coolest Local DJ' and AKA has been voted the 'Coolest Local music star'.

Mr Price, Sandton City, Legit, Nivea, Dark and Lovely, Dove, Protex, Samsung, Vodacom, Trace Urban, First National Bank, Woolworths, Engen, Metro FM, Sunday Times, Spur, Coca-Cola, Jelly Tots and Ferrero Roche were among the brands and products awarded.
