[WATCH] Residents film suspects’ escape from cop car in KZN

Two suspects were filmed while squeezing themselves out the bottom of a bent police van door.

JOHANNESBURG - KwaZulu-Natal police have criticised Pinetown residents who looked on and laughed while filming two suspects escape from a police van.

A video of the brazen escape is gaining traction on social media.

It shows the two suspects squeezing themselves out the bottom of a bent police van door.

The pair were arrested in Pinetown yesterday for possession of a dangerous weapon.

Spokesperson Thulani Zwane says they believe residents assisted in the escape.

"They also discouraged members of the community instead of assisting by alerting members of the police but they were laughing - that means they saw the crime being committed but they didn't report it to the police (sic)."
