SA crime stats will now be released each quarter
Minister Jeff Radebe says the quarterly statistics will help improve crime prevention.
JOHANNESBURG - Cabinet has announced that from now on the police will release crime statistics on a quarterly basis in addition to the release of annual figures.
Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe says the decision was made at the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.
He says the comprehensive annual report will reflect changes to the statistics, which may result from ongoing audits of the figures.
Radebe says the quarterly statistics will help improve crime prevention.
"The need for frequent statistics will better enable government's decision making process to address issues from crime trends. These will also contribute to the National Development Plan pillar which states that the people of South Africa need to contribute to safer communities."
