Mother of Atlantis rape survivor (12) says his life has ‘changed drastically’
The woman was among a group of community members who staged a silent protest outside court today.
CAPE TOWN - The mother of a 12-year-old rape survivor in Atlantis says her son has changed drastically since the incident.
The woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her child, was among a group of community members who staged a silent protest outside court today.
Her son's alleged rapist made a brief appearance.
It has emerged that the man was convicted in 2009 for raping a child and he had served five years of a 10-year jail sentence.
The distraught mother says her son used to be a peaceful child before the rape.
"He was peaceful and calm, he was a lovely child. His whole life has been changed drastically."
She says the whole family has been going for trauma counselling.
"I don't know how he's going to be; God just needs to fix it now but I know he's not going to the same again (sic)."
