JOHANNESBURG - Five people, including a police officer, have been arrested for alleged drug trafficking after a six-month investigation.

The officer, who has been in the service for 34 years and based at the Orlando Police Station, was arrested in Bassonia yesterday.

He led authorities to a house in Zakariyya Park, where more than R105 million worth of mandrax was found.

The Hawks Hangwani Mulaudzi says the investigation has also been extended to the Western Cape.

"Five suspects were arrested, which includes the police officer. We will continue to probe this matter and believe there might be other people involved. We are very happy from the cooperation we've received from Crime Intelligence."
