Atlantis community urges court to deny alleged rapist bail
The mother & grandmother of the rape survivor are among those gathered outside court in Atlantis.
CAPE TOWN - A group of community members have gathered outside the Atlantis Magistrates Court where an alleged child rapist is expected to appear.
The man is accused of raping a 12-year old boy nearly two weeks ago.
The mother and grandmother of the 12-year-old rape survivor are among those gathered outside the court in Atlantis today.
The small group of women have signed a petition calling for bail to be denied.
They are also holding placards with messages asking for the alleged rapist to be castrated and for him to stay in prison.
Ward Councillor Barbara Ras says the alleged rapist doesn't deserve to be released.
"We're supporting the family of the victim. We're opposing bail but we also appeal to the court, the justice system not to fail this child."
Ras says the man had been recently released from prison where he was serving time for rape.
