NEW YORK - It's the event Harry Potter fans around the world have been waiting for.

Previews will begin on the West End today for the two-part stage show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a sequel to the hit series created by JK Rowling 19 years ago.

The official opening is set for 30 July, but fans have been waiting for the follow up since rumours of a theatre show first stirred in December 2013.

Stage and screen actor Jamie Parker is Harry Potter, while Swaziland-born British actress Noma Dumezweni is Hermione Granger.

For fans outside of London, the story will be published as a book on 31 July.
