CAPE TOWN - Several comedians have teamed up with a Cape Town NGO to raise funds for fire retardant paint to be distributed in informal settlements.

The Khusela Ikhaya Project will be starting its Laughs4Paint initiative tonight with a comedy show in Hout Bay.

All proceeds will go towards painting homes in Imizamo Yethu with the repellent paint next weekend.

The paint delays the spread of fires between shacks.

Thousands of residents in the H out Bay informal settlement have been left homeless following devastating fires in the last few months.

Project director Justin Zietsman says, "The hope is that every single informal settlement will be protected by 2020."
