'ANC is only party that's been transparent in selection of candidates for elections'

JOHANNESBURG - President Jacob Zuma says the African National Congress (ANC) is the only party that has been transparent in its selection of candidates for the local government elections.

Zuma is addressing thousands of supporters at the FNB Stadium where members have gathered for the launch of the Gauteng ANC manifesto.

He says while opposition parties may point to political battles linked to candidate selections, it shows the democracy within the party.
Zuma says it's important to remember that robust debate shows a democracy at work.
"We are the only organisation in this country that is transparent with its processes on identifying and electing councillors."
He says Gauteng is the home of the ANC.
"In no way can we have any other party being in charge of Gauteng instead of the ANC."
Zuma cited the recent confidence shown by ratings agencies, saying this shows that the country's municipalities are run efficiently and the economy is in safe hands.
