[LISTEN] Stats SA's household survey shows growing dependence on the state

The latest survey by Stats SA has revealed that more people continue to rely on state coffers as the percentage of individuals that benefited from social grants increased from 12,7% in 2003 to 30,1% in 2015.

JOHANNESBURG - An increasing number of South African households rely on social grants to get by, according to Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).

Stats SA Deputy Director-General Kefiloe Masiteng says that the economic down-turn in the country has affected the rate of social development, and thus the level of state dependency.
